Science Club Training
Thursday, 16:00 to 18:00 Oct 13th 2022
Practical training for those volunteering with our Youth Group Science Club.
Young people engage in hands-on activities, and then talk to the CE explainers about different aspects of being a scientist (e.g. their daily lives, motivations, hobbies, interests etc.). Employs peer learning, to foster young people learning from each other, and showing that they have valuable contributions to make to science. After Day 1, the young people choose which activities they will do the following week, to help foster agency and ownership (See here for the list of activities). The club uses social justice based methods, like the science capital teaching approach, to help broaden young people's perceptions of what kinds of people do science. On the final day, the young people create posters about what they have learnt, and there is a showcase with their parents and guardians.
