Tuesday, December 3rd was the International Day of People with Disabilities. IMPACTE Society held a gathering in the Institute for Lifecourse and Society to mark the very special day. We were delighted to have the Mayor of Galway, Mike Cubbard in attendance, as well as many local disability advocates. The overall theme for the 2019 International Day of People with Disabilities was "The future is accessible." We focused our event on the importance of the day and what it would mean for the future of disability rights in Ireland.
On the 24th November, we had a stand in the Galway Science and Technology Festival Exhibition where we promoted the benefits of sensory play through the use of playdough, slime and a disability-inclusive colouring competition. The five winners of the colouring competition were presented with their prizes by the Mayor of Galway at IMPACTE's celebration for the International Day of People with Disabilities. Also featured on the day was an exhibition of famous scientists who had disabilities in addition to a feature about people who had changed the lives of people with disabilities in a significant way through innovation.
