With over 100 Societies in University of Galway you are sure to find one for you.
It's time to start thinking of applying for your ALIVE Cert for your society volunteering.
Check out this leaflet with all the info you need
Society members and committee members who volunteer at least 10 hours with a society can apply for an ALIVE cert in yourspace.nuigalway.ie. You also have an ALIVE link in your dashboard; this is where you manage the people who apply for ALIVE by volunteering with your society. From here you can reject any applications (but you must email applicants with the reason why you have rejected them) and update their hours if you feel they have under or overestimated their hours- this is done after the individual deadline. You also need to add in a short description of your society and upload a photo. Committee member details are added in automatically to the ALIVE award section in yourspace.nuigalway.ie
Your ALIVE Cert will be added to your academic transcript.
You can get an ALIVE Cert without the Society Leadership Award but not the other way around
Individuals: You can get your ALIVE Cert by applying in yourspace If you are on a committee the role and society will automatically be there for you, if you volunteer with a society you need to add this in. You must: answer all 6 questions, choose the sustainability goal and put in your hours to get the cert - the photo is optional.Â
Societies: You need to go to your society dashboard on the socs website and go to the ALIVE link. Fill in the short society description and check that everyone who has applied to get a cert with your society is entitled to one. There will be about one day once the individual applications are closed to check all your applications and accept or reject them, and to make any adjustments to hours. You must do this for your members to get the cert.
You can add Socs Leadership to your ALIVE Cert (It will also include your society and committee position)
There is a Most ALIVE Award as part of the society awards, for the society with the greatest ALIVE engagement.
If you do complete these steps to get either your ALIVE Award you can add the Leadership Award to your ALIVE Cert.
To add Society Leadership to your ALIVE Cert you need to do the following:
At the start of the year, or now if you are a new society:
Fill in Society Goals and Mission Statement section in the Leadership link in your dashboard.
Committee members also need to add in a goal in the leadership section. Get these 2 steps completed by Feb 27th at 1pm.
The system will switch over to the end of year section of the Leadership Award.
This is how you complete the Leadership Award
This is an add on to your ALIVE Cert, Deadline end of March you can get the ALIVE Cert without the leadership part.
Your society must be eligible, we will be confirming eligibility over the next two weeks.
Society Eligibility Requires:
Completing the 2 questions in the leadership section ‘Mission and Aims’
Having 4 committee members listed in your dashboard
Having held at least 4 events this year
Having 100 members registered with your society
Personal Eligibility Requires:
Answering your first question and your end-of-year reflection in the leadership section in your dashboard.
Completing the short survey in the leadership section
Attending training*
Applying to do the ALIVE cert in yourspace.nuigalway.ie
* If you attended a training session during the year or completed 2 e-learning modules (the mandatory one and the one for your committee position) in the societies dashboard you have already been added in and your training button should be green. If you have completed training and your button is not green, please contact us at socsbox@socs.nuigalway.ie .
There are a number of steps you need to complete:
The society needs to answer these 5 questions after March 6th:
Reflecting on your mission statement, how did your society do this year?
Did your society achieve any of its aims, objectives and goals?
What would you regard as your societies greatest success?
What would you regard as your societies greatest challenge?
5. Reflect on your Society Charter
Note: this is part of the societies general information and should be completed by your committee together. Your Mission Statement, goals and End of Year reflection forms part of your Secretaries Report.
Individual Committee Members
Individual committee members need to complete two steps after March 12th:
This section will entitle the committee member to get a Digital badge if all other requirements are completed.
Note: you need 4 active committee members to retain full society recognition.
End of Year Reflection
Look at the goals you and your society set for yourselves, think about what you learnt and the triumphs and challenges and then reflect on them.
You must complete this and the survey to be eligible to receive the Leadership Award as part of your ALIVE application. If you are eligible, choose the Society Leadership Award from the drop down menu in the ALIVE application as well as your society (put in the number of hours you attended training under Society leadership) and the hours you volunteered with your society/s in their respective sections.
End of Year SurveyÂ
This is also available in the leadership section of your dashboard.
You can see your society and individual committee member’s status in the Leadership section, if you have any problems or need help email the socsbox@socs.nuigalway.ie or pop into the SocsBox Help Desk.
Once your society has completed the end of year report any of you eligible for the Leadership Award will also get a digital badge.
