The University of Galway Medical Society are delighted to announce that we are fundraising for Samaritans Ireland. This wonderful voluntary charity supports an important cause particularly close to our hearts at this time in our community. At least 22 inspirational UG medical students will be shaving or dyeing their hair in two weeks in an effort to raise as much money as we can.Â
The Galway branch of Samaritans Ireland are 100% voluntary and operational 24/7; this is the only mental health service available to many struggling people.Â
Last year the NUIG Medical society raised over €30,000 for charity. We won multiple national awards and were named Best Departmental Society two years successively. We have so far raised over €3,600 for this fundraiser, and would love to spread the word far and wide to increase this figure if at all possible.
This amazing event will be celebrated on February 9th at the Quays Bar and Music Venue from 8pm. Solas, along with various other musical artists will be performing, and all proceeds will go to Samaritans.Â
