Star Trek Society

We are the NUI Galway Star Trek Society, known colloquially as SpockSoc - we're a society for the appreciation of Gene Roddenberry's 1960s sci-fi wonder, Star Trek, as well as all of the iterations of the show that followed! We're also here to educate about Star Trek's philosophy and even run screenings, so even if you've never seen an episode and can't even muster up a Vulcan salute, feel free to come along!

The NUIG Star Trek Society, known colloquially as NUIG SpockSoc, is a Star Trek appreciation society stationed at the National University of Ireland, Galway, and we formed in September of 2017.

We absolutely adore Star Trek in all its forms, and we are committed to promoting the franchise on the university campus through episode and film screenings, LARPing events, games nights, competitions and social nights. We believe in approaching Star Trek from all angles, and analysing it for the sake of fun and academics, and each year we hope to have a multitude of varied, exciting events.

We consider it a mission of ours to spread the ideas of Star Trek around - the bright-eyed, beautiful philosophy of the future is one we wish to live in.

Where else can I find NUIG SpockSoc?

Firstly, if you’re in Galway City, you’re welcome to come along to one of our meetings or screenings! Every week, we’ll set up a poster for our events, and they’ll be posted on our Facebook as an event with their date, time and location. If you can’t make it along, you can always follow us at one of our other social media accounts.

For example:

We totally encourage non-members of the society to contribute to our social media, and we’d love for you to join the discussion with us, and keep us in mind if you visit the West of Ireland!

If you’re interested in what our society members produce, you can check out our Ao3 collection, which contains Ao3 published material made by the members of our society!
